COLLECTIONS

This collection invites the viewer to see the unseen as ties that flow from us in the form of thought, emotion, and intent. If you could envision what our thoughts might look like if they were caught in a single moment, this is what the artist sought to illustrate with these few works. They are an outward expression of the dizzying inner dialogue any one of us might be facing. The lines represent a human inclination to reach out—to be seen or understood. But there is also a freedom in the twisting and looping ties of these illustrations; they share a likeness to the lightness that comes with letting go.

This body of work is an exploration into my relationship with my mother and how my perspective of her and that relationship has changed. Created over the course of many  years each of these pieces can be closely tied to my own personal growth and maturity with regards to understanding my mother for who she really is. Always with honor, love, and admiration these works depict a strong and beautiful woman of color, in a position of power.

Inspired by a childhood fascination with birds—their gaze, their colors, and their remarkable variety—these works transform that early wonder into vivid, detailed visual narratives. Human counterparts meld into some of the scenes, almost as if they are kin with the birds. Japanese influences shape the composition and overall atmosphere of this collection, while still remaining true to the artist’s own storytelling.
